Who We Are

exteriorBarrow Foundation UK is a non-profit
support foundation located in London,
England that raises funds for education
and research in the neurosciences,
including several programs at
Barrow Neurological Institute in
Phoenix, Arizona.

Education and Research

We raise funds for education and research into the neurosciences, endowing several programmes at Barrow, and funding travelling Fellowships for UK and European-based neurosurgeons and neurosurgical nurses to study there. We are also building strategic partnerships for Barrow with some of the world’s best academic institutions in the UK to further the cause of global neuroscience.

UK Charity Established

The UK charity came about through a generous bequest from Majorie Newsome, a long-time friend and supporter of Barrow in the US. In 1960s, Ms Newsome's severe epilepsy was helped significantly when she was treated by John Green, MD, Arizona's first neurosurgeon and the Barrow's first director. In the 1970's she moved to the UK, where she practiced psychotherapy, although she and Dr. Green maintained their friendship through the years. When she died in 1996, she generously left her estate to Barrow to further the neurosciences. Her bequest established our charity and allowed us to begin our work in the UK.
